Hi, it’s Nina Segura again, setting you up to feel like EVERY DAY IS FRIDAY!!! We’re here today talking about the last “T” in the ACTT Blueprint for Leaders, one that is an indispensable part of your success.
“T” is for Transition Plan
Today, most people can expect to have multiple employers and careers over their lifetime, AND if you’re an entrepreneur you probably already have several businesses at one time, too. Many of us start in one career and learn what we need to and then become ready to start something much more meaningful and sustainable. So it’s important to think about having a Transition Plan.Let me give you a real-life example as to why having a Transition Plan is so important. My client, Steve, built an international non-profit organization from the ground up. The organization empowers children to protect themselves and escape rape and abduction. As he enters a new phase in his life, he wants his organization to continue beyond his years. How does he transition to becoming a spokesperson and find someone with the same passion, dedication and knowledge to sustain his vision? An actual, written plan is essential to the making sure the transition is exactly the one Steve wants, and one that enables the next leader to carry on this essential work.
Your Transition Plan
So let’s make this real for you:
- What is your Transition Plan for your current career or business?
- Passing the baton to another leader or family member?
- Retiring (whatever that means these days!)?
- Getting promoted?
- Building a business and getting Private Equity Investors? Franchsing it? IPO?
- Other ideas?
- How many of your written goals align with your Transition Plan?
- What one major milestone will you complete this month? By the end of this year? In five years?
I don’t want to mislead you, creating this plan is not easy. Once you begin, you will find so many issues to consider, it could be overwhelming! I’ve said this in past blogs, and it’s true for the transition plan as well – being with the end in mind. Take some time to reflect on what your end looks like, then who will carry on, what’s important to you about that and so on. A certified coach would be an excellent resource for you during this plan creation. You are not allowed to find a less than adequate coaching partner on the cheap in Natural Awakening magazine! Your legacy is too important to discount!
