Do you wake up and want to make a positive impact during your day but end up somehow in a conflict that you didn’t anticipate? When we are in a conflict, it’s just an opportunity for something greater to happen.

Let me share a true story with you:

Sometimes on Saturday mornings, my neighbor Debra (AKA best neighbor in the world) takes me to her Zumba class. We usually arrive a few minutes early and with our classmates, we wait together for the other class to finish and of course for our instructor to arrive.

Once the class door opens, everyone begins their mad rush to claim their spots. Toward the back-right side of the room we go, where the blinds to the windows can be adjusted so we can see our instructor well enough.

Debra warned me about, the “blind lady” who often comes “from the other side” of the classroom and flips “our blinds” because the “blind lady” says that she can’t see on “her side” of the room where she dances.

Of course, as predicted, the “blind lady” comes to “our side” of the class where Debra and I dance. She proceeds to flips “our blinds” down. Being that my neighbor is upset about it, and I love my neighbor, I decide to move the blinds back up after the “blind lady” walks back to “her side” of the room. For several weeks in a row, the “blind lady” and I were locked into this dance.

However, last week I decided to try something new. I danced in the middle of the room and out of the blind turning battle. As I focused on the instructor, I noticed in the mirrors behind me it wasn’t just one “blind lady”. There were a few people on “each side” throughout the class turning the opposite side’s blinds down!

As I chuckle and roll my eyes, I notice that many of the florescent ceiling lights that are supposed to light the entire room aren’t working! My mind begins to wonder if ANYONE notices that the broken lights are impacting EVERYONE! Each side is fighting with the other, when the real problem is we forget that we have much more in common than we think.

In the same way, I thought of an organization who hires me AFTER exit interviews are complete. These interviews often reveal that the employee is leaving because of THEIR LEADER’S poor behavior. But you see it’s not just their leader that’s the problem. Similar to the Zumba room, our problem is much more global. In this company, they think the problem is someone else, but the truth is that it is everyone’s problem. If one of us has a problem, we ALL have a problem, because if we’re not part of the solution, we are part of the problem!

So, how do we begin to solve this? We must align within and take responsibility for our impact whether it is intended or unintended.

When we take responsibility for our world, we make our world a better place. Aligning within ourselves is the first step to making our world a better place AND it’s not something we can do alone.

  • Who can you count on to help you see the bigger picture?
  • What helps you see beyond your side of an issue?
  • How can you tap further into your Leader Within (e.g. your Higher Self, God)?

In closing, YOU have an everlasting spirit. You were born to make our world a better place. Create positive change in your world by looking within today!

Sincerely,

Nina – Peace Advocate, Light Traveler, Transformational Thought Leader, Experiential Key Noter, Human.
